Candidate profile and applications FAQs
Getting Help & Support
Where can I go if I need help with my profile or application?
If you've already started the recruiting process, we recommend reaching out directly to your recruiter for assistance. You can also view updates on your application status anytime in the candidate portal under “My Applications.”
If you’re experiencing a technical issue or don’t have a recruiting contact, please visit our
Candidate Help Page to submit a support ticket. A member of our team will get back to you as soon as possible.
Recruiting Process
What does the recruiting process at BCG look like?
The recruiting process at BCG can vary depending on the role and location you're applying to. However, there are a few common steps you can expect.
After submitting your application, our Talent Acquisition team will review your materials to assess your skills and suitability for the role. For some positions, you may be asked to complete an online assessment, and in certain cases, a team member may reach out for an initial conversation to learn more about you.
If your application progresses beyond this stage, you’ll be invited to participate in a series of interviews – either virtual or in-person. The number and structure of these interviews may vary based on the position and region.
Throughout the process, our Talent Acquisition team will support you every step of the way. If successful, you’ll receive an offer to join BCG.
Candidate Profile & Account
How do I start my job application at BCG?
To begin your application or register for an event, you’ll first be prompted to sign in or create an account. This involves providing your email address, setting a password, and completing your candidate profile.
Your profile will include key details such as your contact information, location preferences, language skills, education, work experience, and other relevant qualifications. The good news is that once your profile is complete, you won’t need to re-enter this information for future applications.
What email address should I use when creating an account?
Use a personal email address that you will have long-term access to. Do not use a university or school email, as access to these often ends after graduation and may prevent you from receiving important updates about your application. Once your profile is created, your email address cannot be changed. If you lose access to your original email, you will need to create a new profile with a different email address. To help us match your new profile with your previous one, be sure to use the same name and LinkedIn URL. If you require further assistance, please visit our
Candidate Help Page to submit a support ticket.
Can I upload a resume instead of filling in my profile manually?
Yes, you can upload your resume, and the system will automatically extract and populate the relevant fields in your profile. We recommend reviewing all the details carefully – especially your education start and end dates, as inaccuracies here can affect your application.
The resume you upload will also be saved and used for future job applications. Don’t worry – you’ll always be asked to confirm that it’s the most up-to-date version before submitting.
How do I update my candidate profile?
You can update your candidate profile at any time, and it is recommended to do so before applying to any events or jobs. To update your profile, click on “Profile” in the ribbon at the top, and use the pencil icon to edit any sections you need. Please be aware, if you have a live application currently being reviewed by our team, they will most likely use the information provided on your application.
How long is my candidate profile kept and what is it used for?
During profile creation, you may have consented to BCG retaining your data for an additional 5 years. If you did not provide this consent, your data will be deleted 6 months after a recruiting decision has been made regarding your application. If you created a profile but did not submit an application, your data will be deleted 6 months after the profile was created.
If you did consent to extended data retention, BCG may use your information to contact you about future career opportunities or relevant events.
I’ve studied at multiple educational institutions. Which should I include in my profile or job application?
You can include all your educational institutions and associated coursework when creating your candidate profile. However, you’ll be asked to confirm your current or most recent education – including school name, degree, and major – both during profile creation and when applying to a job.
- If you're pursuing a dual degree or major, select the option that is most applicable.
- If your exact major isn’t listed, choose the closest relevant field.
- If you're currently on an exchange program, list your main (home) school.
- If you're not currently enrolled, provide details of your most recently completed degree.
Applications
Can I save my application draft and complete it later?
Yes, as soon as you start your application, your progress is auto-saved. If you need to pause and return to your application later, you can find your application again by clicking on “Applications” in the ribbon at the top, and then “Drafts.”
Can I make changes to my application once it has been submitted?
Unfortunately no, you cannot edit your application once it has been submitted. If you believe you have made a mistake, please reach out to your recruiter or visit our
Candidate Help Page. Please do not withdraw your application with the intention of reapplying, as you can only apply to each role once.
How do I see the status of my application?
You can check the status of your application by clicking on the
“Applications” tab in your candidate portal. You’ll also receive key updates by email throughout the process.
Below are the possible application statuses you may see:
- Application Submitted – Your application was successfully submitted and is awaiting review.
- Application Under Review – Our team is currently reviewing your application.
- Awaiting Additional Information from Candidate – We need more information from you and will be in touch.
- Assessment – You are currently completing an assessment as part of the process.
- Interviews in Progress – You are actively participating in the interview stage.
- Admitted to Program – You’ve been accepted into one of our programs.
- Program Completed – You’ve completed one of our programs.
- Offer Extended – BCG has extended a job offer to you.
- Offer Accepted – You’ve accepted a job offer at BCG.
- Offer Declined – You’ve declined a job offer from BCG.
- Application Not Selected – Your application was not successful.
How do I withdraw my application?
If you no longer wish to be considered for a role, you can withdraw at any time. Login to your account and navigate to “Applications”. In the “Withdraw Application” column you will see three dots; click on this button and select “Withdraw”. You will not be able to apply for the same job once you’ve withdrawn your application.
Can I receive feedback on my application if I’m not selected?
We appreciate the time and effort that goes into every application. However, due to the high volume of applications we receive, we’re unfortunately not able to provide individual feedback at the application stage.
If you have progressed to the interview stage, you’re welcome to reach out to your recruiting contact to request feedback.
Can I apply to the same job again?
You cannot apply to the same job again if you are not selected or withdrew your application. We regularly post new roles, so we encourage you to apply again once you have gained additional skills and experience. We recommend that you only apply for roles that you are serious about and, if relevant, willing and able to relocate for.
Why are some questions already filled in when I start an application?
You may notice certain fields—like your name, phone number, or education—appear exactly as you entered them when you first created your profile. We pre-populate these fields to save you time, but you can still edit any of them while completing the application (for example, updating a preferred first name). When you submit, any changes you made automatically update your profile, ensuring it always reflects your latest information.
Portal & Navigation
Why do I see “Students” or “Experienced” at the top of my candidate portal?
BCG has two distinct candidate portals—Students and Experienced—to reflect the different types of roles we offer.
- The Students portal features roles for current students and recent graduates.
- The Experienced portal lists opportunities for professionals with prior work experience.
If you think you’re on the wrong portal, don’t worry—you can easily switch between them by clicking
“BCG Students” or
“BCG Experienced” in the top navigation bar.
You’re welcome to apply for roles on either portal. Your
applications and interviews will be visible across both, regardless of which one you used to apply.
Events
Why do I need to create a profile to register for an event?
Creating a profile helps us confirm your eligibility to attend certain events – some may be designed for current students, others for individuals with specific skills or experience.
You only need to complete your profile once, and the information you provide will also be used if you choose to apply for jobs in the future.
How can I see what events I have registered to?
You can view your registered events by clicking on the ‘My Events’ tab in the top navigation bar.
Please note that registering does not guarantee a place at every event, so be sure to check your email for confirmation and further details from our events team.
I can no longer attend an event I have registered to, what should I do?
You cannot manage your RSVP directly through your candidate portal. If you need to make changes, please reach out to your recruiting contact – you should be able to find their email in your event-related communications.
Office Preferences
What are office preferences and how are they used?
When you create your candidate profile, you’ll be asked to select your office preferences, these are the BCG office locations where you’d ideally like to work. You’ll be asked to confirm or update these preferences each time you submit an application.
Office preferences help us direct your application to the appropriate recruiting team. Some roles are tied to a specific office, while others offer flexibility. Your preferences play a key role in how your application is reviewed, so we strongly recommend they align with the location of the role you’re applying for. For example, if a role is listed as “USA,” please select offices within the U.S. as your preferences.
We also ask a question about relocation in the application. This helps us consider your candidacy beyond your listed preferences, where appropriate.
You may submit up to four applications at a time through the Students’ Portal. Please do not change your office preferences when submitting multiple applications within the same period.
Scheduling & Interviews
What should I do if I can’t access a scheduling link?
For some interviews and events, you’ll be asked to choose a time slot via a link sent by email. If the link isn’t working or you’re unable to access the scheduling page, please contact your recruiter as soon as possible so they can assist you.
Selecting a time confirms your intent and commitment to attend, so it’s important to resolve any issues promptly
